Please come and join us for an evening of exquisite gourmet dining and musical performances, all within the warmth of your charitable spirit. Bring your family and friends and meet with other members of your community, whose presence is needed to help the women who are living in slavery, and who have suffered from rape and torture in Taiwan.

As you know, human trafficking is on the rise. Although this is a global problem, it is now a cancer in Southeast Asia. According to the U.S. census 2000, SE Asia was the region with the highest number of human trafficking activities in the world. Taiwan has received approximately 175,000 Vietnamese “brides” and workers to date, and the number is growing.

Reverend Nguyen Van Hung, who has received many international awards for his humanitarian efforts, and his volunteers have established a shelter in Taiwan to reach out to the unfortunate women, children and men who got caught in the modern-day slavery net. To date, his shelter has saved or sheltered more than 2000 victims. Father Hung and the volunteers have been working endlessly to give hope and restore life and dignity to these victims. Take the case of H., for instance. She came to Taiwan as a bride. From rape to torture, she endured it all, until the husband’s family forced her to have an abortion. To protect her unborn child, she protested and as a result, she received severe beating. She was locked out on a balcony for five days without food while she was five-month pregnant. She eventually escaped, managed to reach Father Hung’s shelter. With the shelter’s help, H. was able to keep her baby and safely return to Vietnam to join her family.

The stories are numerous, and the pain and suffering endless. We cannot erase human trafficking, but together, we can at least ease the suffering of those we can reach. We do make a great difference in these persons’ lives.

Father Hung will be present at this gathering to answer to any questions you may have.
